Poker Playing Politician to Retire Next Year
Barney Frank, one of the great proponents of legalized gambling, is set to retire in 2012
After 30 years in politics, Barney Frank has announced he is to retire next year. The news will come as a blow to online gambling agitators, as Mr Frank was vocal in his support for the legalization and regulation of online gambling in the US.
Although he did not succeed in his aim, his contribution was an invaluable support for the gambling industry.
For many years, he advised his peers of the advantages of the legalization of online gambling. This sometimes led to other politicians creating their own bills, generating support for the pro-gambling associations.
Mr Frank campaigned vociferously against the Enforcement of Unlawful Internet Gambling Act of 2006.
In addition, he authored two bills in 2007, HR2046 and HR2267. HR 2267, designed to implement regulation and licensing of online poker rooms in the United States, was accepted by the House Financial Committee.
